Judge Sakai Re-Elected to 225th District Court: Highest Vote Count in Bexar County

Dear Voters, Citizens and Taxpayers of Bexar County:

I want to take this time to express my humblest and deepest gratitude for the overwhelming support for my reelection to my fourth term of office for the 225th District Court of Bexar County, Texas.  With your vote, I was the highest vote getter having nearly 40,000 more votes than the historic campaign of Beto O’Rourke.  With that mandate comes much responsibility and accountability as a District Court Judge.

I have served as your judge of the 225th District Court for the past 12 years and previously before that, as your Bexar County Children’s Court Judge for 11 years.  I have always promised to work hard, give dignity and respect to all, and provide a level playing field.  I have lived up to those promises and I will continue to do uphold those principles for the next term of office.

With your support, we have been able to maintain programs and implement new initiatives that better serve the children and families of our community.  In 2003, we created the nationally renowned Bexar County Children’s Courts in the oldest historic County Courthouse.  We started one of the first Family Drug Courts in our State of Texas to reunify children who had been removed from their parents by CPS by developing an intensive and rehabilitative court which I have been privileged to preside and supervise.  We later created a cutting-edge program called the Early Intervention Program, also known as Infant and Toddler Court, which focused on children 0 to 5 years old and most typically, young parents.  We have helped parents learn to be accountableby teaching them skills and values and addressing their issues of drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence and mental health.  We have had tremendous success in reunifying children with their families by committing ourselves to the principles of restorative justice.

The challenges and obstacles for children and families in Bexar County are ever more complex and difficult with limited resources and access to services.  Many children and families end up in our court system which is a traumatic experience. However, with my commitment to restorative justice, we as a community intervene by holding parents accountable, providing safe places for children and families and directing individuals to programs that are proven by evidence-based outcomes in order to help parents come back together as a healthy and contributing family.

We have developed new programs that are assisting grandparents who are taking care of their grandchildren, providing extracurricular activities and benefits to our foster children aging out of our foster care system and setting up a one stop location in the Courthouse that provides the many services that children and families need.  We are constantly using data and metrics to improve and enhance our Children’s Courts, to save taxpayer money, and to improve the outcomes for our children and families.

As you can see, I have not quit working, being innovative and most importantly, caring for our children and families.  With your support and vote, we will make our community a better place to live and work.  Please visit my website, www.judgepetersakai.com  for information and follow me on Facebook. On behalf of my family and program staff, we wish all of you a safe and peaceful holiday season.  May God Bless All of You and Keep our Kids Safe.

Very truly yours,

Judge Peter Sakai
